Product Review and a little TMI....

Happy Monday Lovelies! I wanted to share a little product review with you. And just to give you a little disclaimer, I have really sensitive skin, always have and always will.

So I finally jumped on the Proactive band wagon because I've been having really bad breakouts lately. Here's the TMI part, I think it might be due to switching birth control pills. Long story but it wasn't my choice it was a stupid mistake that my nurse practitioner made and I decided to go with it because I'm not quite ready for a little downtown southern baby yet. ; >

Little background info on me, as I said before I have really sensitive skin and I've tried using other face washes before but nothing has ever worked. So my beauty cleaning routine is usually washing my face in the moring with a rag and warm water. I know, gasp, that's so bad for my skin!!! But seriously anything else seems to irritate it even more.

So this brings me to the Proactive review, I decided to give it a go since nothing else has really worked for me. I've been using it for about 2 weeks and honestley, I think I've broken out even more than before. I'm going to keep using it and see if maybe it will start to clear up but so far no good. : (

Has anyone else had a good or bad experience with Proactive?

  1. I haven't used Proactiv, but I know many of my friends who have and swear by it. Usually when I start a new skincare regimen, I break out too, regardless of what it is. After a couple of weeks it tends to clear up and be better than ever.

I also know many people who use the Clarisonic Mia and love love love it. I'd say keep going with it for a couple more weeks and switch out if it doesn't clear up by then. Best of luck!

  4. I have SUPER sensitive skin and I'm ALWAYS fighting breakouts! I tried proactiv and thought it didn't help. When I called to cancel they asked the reason and I told them it wasn't helping. I GUESS they have another one that fights even harder. I didn't try it...but wondered if anyone else has!

  5. I used it years ago and had great results. I also tried it again recently and I had bad breakouts, I really think it got worse! I just switched to a Dior skincare line so I hope it works-I have sensitive skin as well and I feel like everything messes with it!

  6. I have really sensitive skin too, and after switching bc pills I got breakouts along my jaw line. Anyway, I have been using Proactive for at least 9 years and it's the only thing that works. Now what really helps is Doryx that my dermatologist prescribed. It's a form of doxycycline, and that really controls the breakouts! You might want to see a derm and see what they suggest if you continue to have breakouts! Good luck!

  7. I used it for a long time but have switched. I also used the stronger on that Rae Nolt is talking about, it's called Solvere. Both helped some but I finally went to a dermatologist for help. She put me on an antibiotic and it really helped. I had to take it every 12 hours and if I didn't I would break out. The hope though is to kill whatever bacteria is causing the breakouts. The downfall is that you can't get pregnant on it and an antibiotic cancels out birth control. It was worth it though.
If I had the time before we started trying I would have gone on accutane. I know many people who have had great results on it.

  8. i hated it when i used it!! it cleared my skin up for a little bit, but then i noticed little tiny zit like bumps all over my face. i sucked it up and went to the dermotologist. luckily, the first thing i tried i liked and didnt irritate my sensitive skin. i just use neutrogena oily skin face wash, clendagel in the morning and differin gel at night.

  9. My dermatologist won't let me use it. And when my husband used it, it made his worse and he tried it for 6 weeks...
I use a sulfur based prescription wash and it works better than anything I have ever used for my hormonal acne. Just a suggestion...I would see what the Dermatologist recommends.

  10. I used it and it made my face worse (I have sensitive skin) so I switched to paula's beauty choice. I've been using her line for over a year now with fantastic results!

  11. I totally sympathize! One thing about proactiv, it is VERY harsh. It used to work great for me, but then about a year ago, my skin revolted and said "no more." I do like the Neutrogena lines too!

    Good luck!

  12. I am an esthetician. It usually takes 6 weeks for your skin to adjust to a new product. However, I dont like to recommend ProActive. My daughter used it for a while and I was shocked at the amount of Benzoyl Peroxide in each of their items, even the lotion. This is good for the pimple itself but bad for wrinkles. It should only be used on the break out, not the entire face. I recommend Eva's Esthetics. I have used her product and been to her classes. Dont be discouraged. It sometimes takes trial and error before finding the right balance for your skin.

  14. I hated it! It made my breakouts worse, and my skin was extremely dry! I hope you have better luck though. It is so not fun trying to find a good face regimen =(

Honestly, I love Mary Kay's timewise line. It is amazing. I have tried tons of brands from Ulta, Sephora, Target, and department stores. Mary Kay has worked the best for me!

  16. I'll give you some TMI just to share experience...

In June I was put on a new pill thanks for the government wanting to dole out cheaper prescriptions. Well, I have my period every 4-6 months due to a medical problem. I recently went off to start my cycle and my skin broke out and it was horrible! I looked like a pubescent male teen! On my other birth control I never had that issue!

I need some Proactive. This is nuts! I too have sensitive skin.
