Our Flutes!

I've been looking and thinking for a while about what kind of Champagne Flutes to get for the wedding for our toasts, after the cake has been cut. I really wanted to find something that had a bit of a southern flair! And when I think of southern flair I think of my Granny's crystal....if she's got any glass around the house then it's a beautiful chiseled crystal. She actually gave Fiance and me an awesome punch bowl that was that cut glass crystal look....I don't know what the proper word for that is, if it's cut glass or chiseled or what, I'll just use both. Anyway I thought that would be the perfect touch, it's a little different and I think it's got a definite southern charm to it!

So allow me to introduce you to the lovely little jewels that I just added to my beloved registry! I just added two of the flute one not any of the other ones.Aren't they gorgeous!?! And would ya'll like to know the best part?????? They're Kate Spade for Lenox!!! Ultimate happiness! What are you planning on using for your toasting flutes or what did you use for your toasting flutes? I'd love to know!

Weekend Recap

So I was pretty productive this weekend and got almost all of my list completed!

Flower Petals are done. (Still looking for a pen)

I saw a really cute basket at World Market but I didn't get it because I'm still trying to decide....

I'm still playing with the idea of a small little trunk if I can find one, I'm going to check out Ebay.

I've picked out the pots and pans thanks to Miss Etiquettely Correct for her comment and after getting some good comments on the vacuum I've almost decided on that.

Called the Florist and got my bouquet reserved for my portraits.

Got a good start on some cute pictures for the slide show at the reception.

So all in all a good weekend ya'll!

On an unrelated wedding topic I got this fantastic tennis bag (that I've been stalking online for a while now) at Marshall's for only $20!!!! The cheapest I was able to find it online was $35 and then you'd have to add shipping of course.

5 Things Friday...

Alrighty here are my 5 things I would like to get done this weekend......

1. Use this awesome Michael's coupon (that expires tomorrow, sorry for not posting about it sooner) that I saw on Wedding Bee. I think I'm going to use this for either Flower Girl petals, a Pen, or Flowers that I'll need for making a Towel Cake for my Maid of Honor for one of her showers.....I'll definitely be posting pictures when I'm done.
2. Go to Michael's and World Market and look for something to hold my programs for the ceremony, I was thinking either a basket or maybe even a little celtic looking trunk.....
3. I need to finish registering. I'm registered at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond and I still need to register for a vacuum cleaner and pots and pans, any suggestions???
4. Call my florist and reserve a bouquet for my bridal portraits in July.
5. Start getting pictures together for slide show at reception.

Okay I think I've got my work cut out for me this weekend! Wish me luck and happy hunting ; )

I have a question for ya'll....

What magazine subscriptions do you have??????

I was getting ready to get one to Domino but to be honest I've never really looked at that magazine before, but I have a card to get it for $10 so I thought why not?!

Right now I am currently subscribed to the following......

Southern Lady
Real Simple
Glamour
Tea Time

I did have a Modern Bride subscription but that one ran out :(

So I'd love to know what you all are getting in the mail! And what you would recommend!!!!

Bridesmaid Auction!!

Etiquettely Correct posted about this yeterday and as I was pulling into work this morning the girl, Kelly, was being interviewed by a local radio station. She was saying that the bidding ended yesterday at $5,700 and the winning bidder was 'DrPepperSnapple' so she went in and called the number to see who the winner was and some guy named Nick answered the phone! So she says to him 'oh you want to be in my wedding' and he says 'no I actually work for Dr. Pepper and Snapple and they want to give you $10,000 dollars and do all of your drinks (obviously Dr. Pepper and Snapple) AND they are going to set up a website for you and either do some kind of contest for the person to be in your wedding or have a celebrity do it'

I mean seriously how crazy is that!!!!!? And she said she did an interview for Good Morning America this morning but I don't see anything on their site about it.

I'm using Ribbon.....

everywhere I can!
And the ribbon is actually the Blackwatch Tartan and it looks just like the pattern in the pictures below!

The groomsmen will actually be wearing the Blackwatch kilt so I wanted to have the matching ribbon woven, no pun intended : ), throughout the wedding. So the bouquet's are going to be wrapped in the ribbon, I think it's going to go really well with the black dresses! And then we'll have the ribbon on the programs and on the Church pews and I'm going to use it for wrapping the vases for the sparklers at the reception. I'm also going to use it for our Out of Town Bags! And I haven't fully decided but I might hang our initials on the doors at the Church and if I do that I'll obviously use the ribbon there too! Is anybody else incorporting their initials in their wedding?

Switchin it up ya'll!

Sorry I had to switch my colors up, the olive green was starting to get to me! Now back to your regularly scheduled blogging ; )

Update.

Okay so I can tick the Tuxedo's off the list.

I found the sparklers online (with free shipping no less) and just need to order them and I'm debating on the matches, I don't know if I should spend the money on getting them personalized or just buy them plain and save some money. I think it turned out to be around $13.50 more for personalized.

My mom and I didn't make it to Nordstrom to look for her dress so that's still on the list.

And I didn't get a chance to look for the pen either.

I have decided on the piper though, so another thing done. Only 500 more things to do and we'll be good to go! Just kidding but it feels like it though, my mom and I went to eat last night and we started talking about what was left to do and it seemed like there are a million things still to do......but I know it will all come together in the end!

5 Things Friday.

I've decided that I'm going to start a regular post every Friday called '5 Things Friday' because I heart lists. I'm a list making maniac ya'll! So every Friday I'm going to list 5 wedding related items, tasks, things that I need to get done and hopefully I'll actually get them done over the weekend.....but just in case I don't, I'm going to give myself until the next Friday. Because I'm generous like that and 'because I'm the bride THAT'S why'! Haha, I love that saying, I actually have a hot pink koozie on my desk at work that has that saying on it, I keep my pens in it. Anyway getting back on track now....here are my 5 things!

1. Go by Tux Rental place at the mall and pick out tuxedo for my ushers to wear (ushers are my brothers who refuse to wear kilts because they are from the south and are way to manly and macho to wear 'skirts', I beg to differ though.....these guys look pretty macho to me!)
(image from google images)

2. Keep looking for dresses for my mom to wear to the wedding.

3. Buy rest of Sparklers for send off and buy Matches, also look for cute tall vase to put the Sparklers in. (I saw the CUTEST photo last week of someone's sparklers and matches and cannot for the life of me remember where I saw them! UGH! It's driving me crazy!)

4. Look for a nice pen to place with the Guest Book at the ceremony. Anybody have any suggestions on this one, I'm at a total loss??? I don't want to spend a lot of money but I do want something nice.

5. Need to decide on a piper for the ceremony.

American Girl in Italy.

So I have a non wedding related post to share with you. I do want this blog to be about everything not just weddings, but it's really hard right now becuase I'm so obsessed with getting the wedding planned and all! :)

I went to Italy with Fiance in the summer of 2006 and it was amazing! If you ever get the chance to go you should jump at it! Anyway while we were in Florence we stumbled upon a photo shoot and Fiance told me that they were recreating an old photo that was taken back in the 50's.

I was fascinated by it so when I got back home I researched the photo and found out that it was Ruth Orkin's 1951 photo named 'American Girl in Italy' which actually is quite famous.I'm definitely going to do something with the photos I have above, maybe make them into a black and white and put them side by side with the original. I just love it, it's so classic!

The moment I knew......

that this was my dress! Ha, I bet you thought I was going to tell you a romantic story about me and Fiance! Tricked ya!
So I always used to hear brides say that they knew the dress was "the one" when they tried it on so for me that's what I was looking and waiting for..."the one" Ironically enough the first dress I tried on I thought was "the one" it was beautiful and it looked beautiful on me, but I didn't want to stop at the first dress because even though I thought it was "the one" I wasn't 100% sure and so that made me a little skeptical about "the one" theory!

I think I must have tried on two dozen dresses and kept thinking about the first one. I was looking for classic, timeless, not over the top but I wanted to have a little bit of the wow factor, you know!? So my mom and I decided to go to Williamsburg and look at a bridal shop there and the ladies were so sweet and picked out at least 10 dresses but again none of them felt like "the one".......that is until I got to the last one. I was all ready to give up and go put my clothes back on when the lady that was helping me told me I had one more to try on, I looked at it and said no thanks I didn't like it. And I really didn't like it, not the way it looked in the bad and she told me, "You're already undressed you might as well try it on" so I said okay what the heck and went and put it on................OH MY GOSH YA'LL, seriously, the angels starting singing the lights from Heaven poured down on me and I completely had "THE ONE" feeling!!!! I loved it! I love everything about it! It couldn't have been more perfect for me!

This is me with the "oh my gosh it's the one" look on my face! Please note that this dress was a size 14 or something hence the reason I'm all clipped up in the back.

I absolutely love the lace on this dress!

And the train, I originally didn't want that big of a train but I changed my mind completely when I put this dress on!

I didn't get the dress bustled this way, I got it bustled over the top. It ended up looking way better!

You can't really tell from these pictures but this dress sparkles and I mean it really sparkles. I hope my photographer can get some good shots of it in all its sparkley glory!

Pure happiness! I was holding back a little because there was a creepy guy sitting about 2 feet away from me staring at me, I think he had a mail order bride with him, seriously she didn't speak a lick of english!!! Creepy!

The only reason I'm posting these pics of me in my dress is becuase Fiance doesn't read my blog so I'm in the clear!

And you'll get to see more of me in my dress before the wedding because I'm getting my bridal portraits done in July!!! Yea!!

Guest Book(s)!

I have to tell you that I'm kind of excited about my guest books! For Christmas my sweet mama, I mean "Santa" got me a beautiful ivory guest book from Hallmark. I love it and I'm definitely going to use it for my ceremony but I really wanted to do something unique for the reception. So after thinking about it and talking to Fiance and getting his input we decided that we'd have three different "coffee table" style books at the reception for guests to sign that have special meanings to us plus it'll give our guests a choice of which book they'd like to sign or they can sign then all, whatever tickles their fancy!
One is going to be a Virginia book since that's where we live now. I loved this one because of the title!

The next one is going to be a Scotland book because that's where Fiance is from.

And finally the last one is an Italy book and this one to me has the most meaning becuase it's where Fiance proposed and I have to tell you it'll be one of the most romantic proposals you've ever heard, but I'm saving it for another day!

I love this idea because we'll get to cherish these books forever and they'll get passed down to our children and their children!

Buy a Frosty from Wendy's and do some good!

Go over to The Preppy Wedding and see what a great thing Wendy's is doing on June 14 and 15. It's for a great cause! Check it out!

Roses, Hydrangeas, and Thistles.....

Or better known as my flowers! You may be wondering what a thistle is so let me tell you. A thistle is actually a type of weed, believe it or not, but more importantly it's the national emblem of Scotland. So in trying to keep this a nice well balanced Southern/Scottish Wedding we'll be including the prickly little suckers.
We're also having Ivory Roses and Ivory Hydrangeas.

(photos from The Knot)

My bouquet is going to be just the Roses and the Hydrangea kind of like the picture above and then the bridesmaids bouquets are going to have the Hydrangea and the Thistle. The groomsmen and ushers will have a Thistle boutonniere and Fiance is going to have a Thistle with a Rose, oh and the Mother's are going to have Roses with little bunches of purple Heather because Heather is supposed to be good luck according to Fiance. One more thing knocked off the list ya'll!

Cake Inspiration.....

I ordered my cake two weeks ago and I'm really glad I can tick that off of the to-do list because the to-do list is still pretty long! I wanted to share the inspiration for my cake though.

(photo was taken from www.sweettoothky.com/weddings.html)
I'm having a three tier ivory buttercream cake with the same pattern as the picture shown above. I'm really going for elegant and understated for my wedding and I think this cake does the job. But I can't decide if I should go with the silver cake stand or maybe some kind of other cake stand like the one shown in the picture below??

(this photo was also taken from www.sweettoothky.com/weddings.html)

Which do you like better the silver cake stand or the white cake stand? I can't decide....

One more thing, here is my bride and groom cake topper (Fiance requested this and I thought it was cute so I obliged)

My Beautiful Maids

After Fiance and I got engaged and we finally started thinking about what we wanted our wedding to be we decided that we definitely wanted a small wedding party. So I asked my two best girlfriends to be my Maid of Honor and my Martron of Honor and then Fiances sister to be my Bridesmaid. As a side note I am the only girl of five, yes that means I have four brothers! It wasn't that bad, really! And then Fiance asked three of his close soccer buddies to be his groomsmen and one of them is going to be his Best Man. As I said in an earlier post Fiance is from Scotland and all of his childhood friends are spread out all over the world so he wanted to keep it easy and just ask the local peeps. His sister is still in Scotland though but it hasn't been bad because we always talk over email and I update her on all of the wedding plans AND I picked out the bridesmaids dresses early on and was able to take hers to her over Christmas! Speaking of dresses here is what I chose for the ladies!

They are wearing the black because the groomsmen are wearing kilts, so I figured black would go with them the best. I haven't 100% decided if I want them to wear the sash with it or not. I might just let them go without. The best thing about this dress is that I got them from Target online for only 89.99 plus free shipping for them. The worst thing about this dress is that the only way into it is through those buttons you see on the back and while I love the way it looks it's a bit of a pain to button up, so I think the girls might get a zipper put in the side.

But I'm really excited about them and think they are going to look oh so pretty!! But what do you all think sash or no?

I'm a Pearl Girl

If I had to tell you what my favorite peice of jewelry was (aside from my engagement ring of course) I would tell you, without a doubt, my pearl necklace and pearl studs. I absolutely love them and wear them everyday! Fiance actually got them for me about three years ago and I've been attached at the neck and ears to them ever since. I've had to get them cleaned twice and restrung once. Needless to say I will difinitely be wearing my pearls on my wedding day along with another pair of pearl drop earrings that fiance gave to me that he actually had made for me!!! He's a keeper ;)!

But lately I've been worrying that I'm wearing them too much, I decided to try and take a break from them so when my wedding day comes I'll be so excited to wear them, but then I think I'm just being silly and I should wear them becuase I love them so much. However I did a little shopping for some alternatives, any reason to shop you know!! And let me just tell you I am hard wired to buy bargains! I just can't spend a lot of money on things when I know I can get them for a better price somewhere else! So I went to Forever 21 and got some cute big bead necklaces for only $5.80 a peice! I got these in a little more of a light pink color and black. I'm hoping they'll do the trick and keep me away from my pearls until the big day but I don't know! I'll keep you posted!

My Shoes

Let me just start by saying I'm a tall girl. I'm about 5'9" and my intended is a little under that, not by much I think we are almost the same height. Before I met fiance I was just not into dating guys that were my height or shorter than me and then I completely went against the norm and started dating fiance. So when I started thinking about the shoes I knew right away that I'd have to go with flats. I looked all around, I originally thought about the slippers but well they're too much like slippers. So I was perusing websites trying to find "the one" when I found them!

The only problem......they were sold out! So I went to my trusty Ebay and lo and behold there they were at a whopping 53% less than what they were priced at on JCrew!!! I heart Ebay ya'll!

Save the Date!

We just sent out our STD's at the beginning of May. We were running against the stamp increase clock! I did a lot of research online looking for something that was cute and different. I really liked the idea of a magnet because it can be put in a place where you're constantly reminded of the wedding! So while looking online I ran across a website that did childrens photos of the bride and groom and put them together to create a super cute picture. I fell in love with the idea instantly! I thought that would be the cutest thing ever, now I just needed to get a good picture of finace and I that could be put into one picture. There was just one problem, fiance is from Scotland so we had little to no baby/kid pictures of him. Luckily we went to visit his family right after Christmas and I snagged a few more pics of him. Fiance was looking through a collective pile of pics when he came across "the one" I mean this picture couldn't have been more perfect, it's a picture of me when I was little and all dressed up for Homecoming Court (it's a southern thing) with my escort Ralph this poor kid was just about as dorky as they come. Bless his heart I sure hope he grew up to be a less of a dork than he was back then because otherwise there's no hope for him. Anyway, the best man just happens to be in advertising and a wiz at the computer graphics so I sent him our pictures and this is what he came up with.

Seriously it couldn't have turned out more perfect! I got the magnet made over at vista print and put on there These Kids are Getting Married! Save the Dates....success.....check!!!
